The Chamber of Commerce of Zenica-Doboj Canton, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Zenica-Doboj Canton, and with technical support from GIZ, successfully organized a three-day training for 17 new mentors of practical training. The training was held from May 30 to 31 and on June 2, 2025. Participants included representatives of companies, crafts, and public institutions from various parts of the Canton, as well as representatives from the company GS TMT from Central Bosnia Canton.
The goal of this training was to empower employees in the real sector and public institutions to take on the important role of mentoring students who carry out practical training in these organizations, with a focus on developing fundamental pedagogical and didactic skills. Through dynamic workshops and hands-on exercises, participants gained knowledge on working with youth, motivation techniques, effective communication, and ways to monitor student progress.
“Mentors are a key link in the chain of vocational education – they do not only transfer knowledge, but also work habits, values, and experiences that are crucial for students as they take their first steps into the world of work. Without them, quality practical training would not be possible,” stated the Chamber of Commerce of ZDK.
This activity is implemented within the scope of “Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SVET)”, which is part of the program “Sustainable Economic Development and Promotion of Employment (SEDEP)”. The program is co-financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of Switzerland, and implemented by GIZ. Its aim is to improve the quality of vocational education in Bosnia and Herzegovina by strengthening the connection between the education system and labor market needs.
Upon completion of the training, participants will demonstrate their acquired knowledge through independent practical work. The most successful ones will receive a certificate confirming their readiness to mentor future generations of students in their companies, trades, or public institutions.
