The 6th International Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering (CMBEBIH 2025), the largest scientific and professional event of its kind in Southeast Europe, was officially opened today in Sarajevo. The conference is taking place from September 11 to 13, bringing together leading national and international experts, researchers, innovators, industry representatives, and policymakers.
Under the motto “From Science to Business”, the conference offers a rich program of keynote lectures, panel discussions, workshops, book promotions, and student activities, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and ideas. Special focus is placed on the application of artificial intelligence in medicine, healthcare digitalization, and the sustainable development of health systems.
Lejla Gurbeta Pokvić, Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee, emphasized that CMBEBIH is a great opportunity to connect science and industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Science can be positioned as an operational resource for development, not just a supporting element. Our industry and institutions need to build stronger connections with the scientific community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and globally, to progress and grow together. CMBEBIH is an excellent platform for that. We are excited to present innovations that are transforming medicine and healthcare, as well as the potential contributions of the scientific community to our economy. Additionally, institutional representatives will have the opportunity to showcase their digital capacities to the business community, and to hear its voice and needs regarding the digitalization of the public sector in BiH,” said Gurbeta Pokvić.
As part of the conference, the OncoTrack Hackathon is being organized in cooperation with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT Health). Over three days, high school students, university students, and young researchers from the region will work in teams supported by mentors from the European Union to develop innovative digital solutions in the field of oncology and present them to a professional jury.
Verlab Institute, as a co-organizer of the conference, is also conducting free professional training sessions for companies as part of the project “Transformation for Competitiveness: Digital and Green.” These trainings cover digital and green transformation, the application of advanced technologies such as AI, IoT, and HPC, and showcase successful case studies of businesses that have undergone transformation. Companies will also be introduced to opportunities for using high-performance computing through the EURO HPC JU network.
The conference is supported by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the “Private Sector Development” initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which aims to strengthen the competitiveness and innovation of the local economy, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.
