FabMobile, the first high-tech mobile laboratory in the Western Balkans, has launched its nationwide tour, bringing advanced technologies directly to schools and local communities. The initiative, implemented by FabLab Bosnia and Herzegovina, is already delivering tangible results on the ground, with more than 500 high school students participating in hands-on workshops.
The FabMobile tour is implemented with financial support from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the Private Sector Development Initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Following the completion of the mobile laboratory’s technical setup, FabMobile conducted visits in March 2026 to secondary schools in Bijeljina, Živinice, Tuzla, Gračanica, Prijedor, and Gradiška. The next phase of activities is planned for April and May 2026 under the FabMobile Youth Caravan initiative, during which the mobile lab will visit Teslić, Brčko, Busovača, Zenica, Vitez, Travnik, and Novi Travnik.
This phase will further expand the reach of the initiative and provide new generations of young people with access to modern technologies and practical skills. The workshops are designed as hands-on learning experiences, where students have the opportunity to use and test technologies already applied in modern industry. The program is delivered through five specialized stations: virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), digital fabrication, collaborative robotics, IoT systems, and an intelligent autonomous robotic platform. Through these activities, students gain insight into real-world applications of technology across various sectors, aligned with their educational pathways.
The implementation of these visits highlights the importance of a modern and practical approach to education and skills development. By bringing technology directly into schools, the initiative helps reduce disparities between urban and smaller communities and strengthens the link between vocational education and labor market needs.
FabMobile has been developed within the InnoXcellerate project, co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the Private Sector Development Initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and implemented by GIZ. The project aims to strengthen digital and green competencies and improve access to innovation, particularly in communities with limited access to modern equipment and training. The project is part of the broader programme “Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (SEDEP).
