Students of the Public Institution Mixed Secondary School “Dr. Husein Džanić” in Velika Kladuša will soon acquire practical knowledge and skills in a more modern, better-equipped school workshop for the automotive mechanic programme. A handover agreement for equipment worth more than BAM 30,000 was signed at the school.
The agreement was signed by the school’s principal, Enver Bajrektarević, and GIZ technical advisors for vocational education and training and the labour market, Daniel Radić and Merima Bekto.

The new equipment will enable the modernisation of the school workshop and improve the quality of practical training. Students will have the opportunity to work with modern tools and equipment and, through hands-on experience, develop the professional knowledge and skills required by today’s automotive repair industry.
“High-quality practical training begins in a well-equipped workshop. Students must have the opportunity to work with the tools, machinery and technologies they will encounter in a real working environment. This is why GIZ does not view its support to schools solely in terms of procuring equipment. Instead, it aims to connect modern equipment, high-quality practical training and teachers with the needs of the private sector,” said Daniel Radić, GIZ technical advisor for vocational education and training and the labour market.
As he explained, the aim is for school workshops to become places where students acquire specific professional competencies, as well as skills that are increasingly important in the labour market—from problem-solving and teamwork to adapting to new technologies.
“The value of this type of support is best reflected in the knowledge and skills that young people take with them after completing their education. We want them to be prepared not only to find employment but also to perform their jobs well, continue learning and develop alongside new technologies and the changing needs of the private sector,” Radić added.

Support for the Public Institution Mixed Secondary School “Dr. Husein Džanić” forms part of a broader investment in modernising practical training in secondary vocational schools across Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of ten secondary vocational schools from Una-Sana Canton, Sarajevo Canton and Tuzla Canton received modern equipment for educating students in the fields of automotive mechanics and automotive mechatronics, with a combined value exceeding BAM 300,000.
Investments of this kind help strengthen the connection between education and the world of work, enabling young people to develop competencies that meet the needs of employers and the modern labour market while they are still in school.
Support for the modernisation and improvement of schools is being provided through the Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SEDEP), in the field of Vocational Education and Training (VET). This area is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Government of Switzerland, with GIZ responsible for implementation.
For the Public Institution Mixed Secondary School “Dr. Husein Džanić,” this support represents an important step towards improving practical education conditions for future automotive mechanics. It also marks the continuation of cooperation aimed at creating better opportunities for students and preparing them more effectively for the world of work.
The school expressed its gratitude to GIZ and the governments of Germany and Switzerland, whose support through the Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina enabled the modernisation of the school workshop and the improvement of practical training.
