The Minister of Education and Science of Tuzla Canton, Ahmed Omerović, visited the Mixed Secondary School in Živinice today. The purpose of the visit was to distribute manuals and workbooks to students of this school who, in the 2025/2026 school year, enrolled in the new occupation “Metalworking Machine Operator.” The curriculum for this new occupation was developed within the project “Improving the Framework for the Development of Dual-Organized Education in Tuzla Canton”, implemented by the Cantonal Chamber of Commerce Tuzla with the support of GIZ, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The event was also attended by the President of the Cantonal Chamber of Commerce Tuzla, Nedret Kikanović, and the Director of the Pedagogical Institute of Tuzla Canton, Izet Numanović.
On this occasion, Minister Omerović handed over the manuals and workbooks to the students and teachers, which will help students acquire professional knowledge and skills in the fields of CAD, CAM, tool design and production, and CNC turning, making them better prepared for participation in the labor market.
“The introduction of the Metalworking Machine Operator occupation, which we are jointly implementing with the German GIZ, aims to further synchronize education and the labor market. The market, various companies, are interested in workers who have such sophisticated training. That is why we gladly accepted this GIZ project, which is currently being implemented,” said Minister Omerović.
Minister Omerović emphasized the importance of holding the promotion in Živinice, a city experiencing significant economic growth.
“A total of 150 students of the Mixed Secondary School in Živinice signed contracts to attend practical training in nine larger companies and 22 craft workshops. This is significant, as it shows that we are expanding student practice and this trend will grow in the coming period. The goal is to have a strong economy and students with quality education, who will later have good jobs that ensure a decent living,” said Minister Omerović.
The curriculum is outcome-based and verified by business entities, ensuring alignment of education with labor market needs.
“The curriculum was developed in cooperation with business representatives, and they have approved it. This program is very important for the economy. The new curriculum will bring what we aim for – a smooth transition from school to the economy, training personnel essential for industry. I thank the Ministry, GIZ, and the Mixed Secondary School in Živinice for recognizing this program,” said Nedret Kikanović, President of the Cantonal Chamber of Commerce Tuzla.
In addition to Živinice, this occupation is also being implemented this school year at the Mixed Secondary Mechanical School in Tuzla and the Mixed Secondary School in Gradačac, where manuals have also been provided for students.
