Humperia – A Domestic Brand Growing from the Local Community

The development of small businesses often begins within a local community, but with the right ideas, innovation, and the use of digital channels, it can grow into a recognizable brand on the market. One such example comes from Kalesija, where the brand Humperia was created—a business venture that demonstrates how a creative idea can evolve into a stable and growing company.

Edin Humić, owner of Humperia d.o.o.

Today, Humperia develops and markets a variety of products that are created in Bosnia and Herzegovina, contributing to the strengthening of domestic production and the creation of additional value in the local economy. The brand’s business model is based on developing its own products, design, and organizing production processes that involve cooperation with local partners and manufacturers.

Throughout the company’s development, special attention has been given to creating a business model that connects the creative industry, digital sales channels, and local production. Digital communication and sales channels have enabled the brand to reach customers across Bosnia and Herzegovina, while also building a direct relationship with its community of users. In this way, Humperia demonstrates how digital transformation can help small businesses expand their market reach and accelerate growth.

At the same time, the development of the brand has a significant impact on the local community. As the business grows, new opportunities are created for cooperation with local suppliers, designers, and other business partners, further strengthening the local economy. It is particularly noteworthy that the majority of employees in the company are women, through which Humperia contributes to the economic empowerment of women and the creation of new employment opportunities within the local community. Such business models are especially important for smaller communities, where the development of entrepreneurship can have a strong developmental impact and contribute to long-term economic growth.

Humperia also presented its business concept during the entrepreneurial event “Welcome to the Future 2.0,” where it received a financial incentive of 3,000 KM among the showcased businesses. This recognition further confirmed the potential of the business idea and the growth path of the brand. Support for the development of Humperia’s business was provided through mentoring and program support from the Impakt Investment Foundation, which supports entrepreneurship and strengthens the business capacities of small enterprises through its programs. The implementation of these activities is supported through the Private Sector Development Initiative, co-financed by the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The initiative is also part of the broader GIZ program “Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion,” which contributes to the development of innovative and competitive small and medium-sized enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The story of Humperia demonstrates how a business idea developed within a local community can grow into a successful brand that connects innovation, digital tools, and domestic production, while simultaneously creating new opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment.

This success story was developed within the Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion Programme (SEDEP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, jointly financed by the European Union, the Government of Switzerland and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented by GIZ.
