The energy transition and the shift toward renewable energy sources are increasingly influencing the development of new business opportunities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As interest in solar power plants and other forms of renewable energy generation continues to grow, space is opening for new entrepreneurial initiatives that follow this sector and contribute to its further development.
One such example comes from Banovići, where entrepreneur Edis Hodžić is developing the company EDOM d.o.o. The company’s business activities are based on providing technical services in the field of facility maintenance, including various types of maintenance, servicing, and facade cleaning. Through the development of its operations, the company has gradually built experience and a solid reputation within this sector.
The growth of the renewable energy market has also opened new opportunities for businesses in related service industries. In this context, EDOM recognizes space for further development, particularly in segments connected to the expansion of solar power plants and the increasing need for their regular maintenance. This approach demonstrates how existing businesses can evolve and adapt to new market trends emerging from the process of the green transition.
For local communities such as Banovići, the development of such business initiatives is especially important. Entrepreneurial activities connected to emerging sectors like renewable energy can contribute to the diversification of the local economy and create new opportunities for the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Support for the development and strengthening of the company’s operations was provided through the activities of the Impakt Investment Foundation, which offers mentoring and program support to entrepreneurs in developing business ideas and expanding their operations. The company also had the opportunity to present its business during the entrepreneurial event “Welcome to the Future 2.0.” These activities were implemented through the Private Sector Development Initiative, co-financed by the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The initiative is also part of the broader GIZ program “Sustainable Economic Development and Employment Promotion,” which encourages the development of innovative and competitive businesses in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Examples like this demonstrate how entrepreneurship can play an important role in the green transition by connecting local business initiatives with new market opportunities emerging from the development of the renewable energy sector.
