Electronic identification is a key service that enables citizens and business entities to communicate with the administration electronically and to use e-services. The EU has relatively recently established a legislative framework that sets high requirements for electronic identification through the electronic wallet, as well as for all other countries that wish to be part of the EU’s single digital market. By improving the existing system for electronic identification, based on the EU reference framework, progress will be made and the necessary conditions created for the functioning of e-Government, and technically enable the interoperability of electronic identification mechanisms with the EU.
